David Hoffman is well known to CIJS audiences, having performed many times on his own, as guest in other featured groups, and in the CIJS House Band.  He spent 13 years traveling the world with the legendary Ray Charles, while still retaining his roots in Central Illinois. After Ray’s death, David returned to Central Illinois, where he teaches at Knox College, serves as President of the Peoria Federation of Musicians (AFM Local 26), performs music and spreads the good word about jazz. He records new music in his home studio, located in a small former Congregational Church in the corn and bean fields a few miles north of Peoria and is the author of “What’s That Bus Doing on the Runway, the Antics and Absurdities of a Life on the Road”.

David Hoffman will be performing with the 18-piece Heartland Jazz Orchestra (HJO). David is the Orchestra’s new Musical Director and is pleased to present this fine band, for the first time under his direction. Formed in 1999, the HJO is dedicated to preserving and furthering the cause of America’s classical music, jazz.  The band will be performing an assortment of original material by Dave, Cuban legends Arturo Sandoval and Hilario Duran, and New York trumpeter and Ray Charles alumnus Tim Ouimette. They will also play big band standards from the libraries of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman.

The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz program for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. They will present a variety of live jazz offerings. Please come out and support them.
