The Knox College Jazz Ensemble, under the Direction of Nikki Malley (Permanent Director) and David Hoffman (Fall, 2010 Interim Director), will be performing classic  selections from the world’s most renowned big bands, including Count Basie, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton, and will also include music by Horace Silver and Tito Puente. Also included will be an original work by David Hoffman, dedicated to the band’s 2008 trip to Spain.

The KJE has performed and won awards at Elmhurst College, Western Illinois University, Notre Dame University, and the University of North Texas. The KJE was named an “Outstanding Ensemble” at the 2010 Elmhurst College Jazz Festival. Jazz Studies at Knox College is a dynamic and comprehensive program that includes academic work from the introductory level through advanced courses in music history, theory and performance. Academic credit is also awarded for private lessons, ensembles and jazz combo participation. Nikki, Dave and the KJE are very pleased to be able to present this program to the CIJS.

The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz program for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. They will present a variety of live jazz offerings. Please come out and support them.

Admission:  $5.00 Members     $7.00 Non-Members
Children 14 years and under are free with an adult
