John Miller and the Romaniacs will perform as the guest group for the first time for the Central Illinois Jazz Society’s August program. John Miller leads the Romaniacs on guitar.  Joining John are Tim Brickner on bass, Joe Park on guitar, and Larry Harms on clarinet and melodica. The Romaniacs play a “gypsy jazz” style of music, based on that played by Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt formed a quintet in 1934, along with violinist Stephane Grappelli. The Hot Club of France was formed to develop a gypsy rhythm and add extra spice to the music. The Romaniacs play on rotating Wednesdays (6:30-8:30 p.m.) at the Rhythm Kitchen Music Cafe in Peoria. Other groups in the Wednesday rotation are the Todd Kelly Quintet and the Larry Harms Quartet. The Romaniacs played at the LaSalle Jazz Festival last year. They are scheduled to return to the Decatur Jazz Festival / Juvae Jazz Festival in February 2011. Their CD, “French Kiss”, will be available at the program. The CD is on the WGLT playlist. You will enjoy this lively music, which has become more popular during recent years. The Romaniacs are the only Central Illinois band playing this style of music.

The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. This talented group is the heart of our monthly jazz program for the jazz fans of Central Illinois. They will present a variety of live jazz offerings. Please come out and support them.
